Mansour Al-Shihri Okaz/Saudi Gazette RIYADH – A security officer was wounded when three beggars opened fire on him when he tried to arrest them, Riyadh police said Friday. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) later arrested the three men, who were of an Arab nationality. Police said a member of the Drug Combat Committee spotted a beggar at a traffic light in eastern Riyadh and approached him. When the beggar saw the officer he fled the scene with two other beggars who were in the vicinity. The officer chased the beggars and stopped them in Al-Yarmouk district. The beggars resisted arrest and one of them fired at the security officer before escaping. Their descriptions were immediately circulated to all security patrols in the field and other security agencies. The officer was provided first aid by his colleague and was taken to hospital. He was discharged after treatment as his injury was not serious Police carried out a thorough search for the suspects with the help of the Criminal Investigation Department. One of them was arrested and he subsequently led the police to the others. Riyadh police said all three would be produced in court after completion of investigations.
