Police here raided several crime dens over the past week and nabbed 36 people wanted for committing various offenses, said 1st Lt. Nawaf Al-Booq, acting spokesman for Jeddah police. Also arrested were 1,688 undocumented workers, 244 women and 204 child beggars, 74 street hawkers and 275 car washers, he added. The districts raided included Al-Sabeel, Onaikish, Al-Mesfah, Al-Kandarah, Bani Malik, Quwaizah, Al-Faisaliya, Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, he noted. Some of the criminals arrested were involved in home robberies, making and selling liquor, drug dealing, stealing cars, misbehaving in public places and renting motorbikes without licenses. Jeddah Police acted on information received by citizens who had called the police hotline number 642-5550 to report the dens. Police dispatched undercover agents to the above districts to keep a close eye on the dens and monitor the movement of the occupants. Agents were also sent to streets and locations frequented by beggars to monitor their movements. Mag. Gen. Ali Al-Ghamdi thanked citizens who reported the dens and urged all citizens to do the same and report any suspects to the police. He also called upon parents to keep a close eye on their children, especially with the advent of summer vacation. __
