The manager of the Madinah Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center for the disabled has been relieved of his post after the death of an inmate who escaped from the center recently. The decision to dismiss the manager and to take other punitive measures against him was recommended by a fact-finding committee set up by the Ministry of Social Affairs, Dr. Abdullah Al-Yusuf, the Undersecretary for Social Care at the ministry, said in a statement. The manager has also been docked 35 percent of the cash allowance paid to him for running the center. A new director of the center has been appointed. Two supervisors were also found negligent and they have also been punished by having their salaries cut by 20 and 15 days respectively. Also, some workers at the center, a nurse, supervisors of the shift during which the inmate was able to escape, the backgate guard and a driver, have been fired. They have also been barred from working in any of the shelter homes run by the ministry. The contracting company tasked with personal care, general cleanliness and maintenance has been fined SR300,000 because of negligence. Seven disabled inmates of the rehabilitation center have died mysteriously in the last month, with the latest death occurring two weeks ago. The body of the inmate was found inside a septic tank outside the center. __
