The Ministry of Social Affairs has punished a supervisor at the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Madina for torturing Muhammad Hamid Al-Jihani, 30, an inmate. The supervisor, whose salary was reduced by 35 percent, was transferred to administrative work in the Madina branch of the Ministry of Social Affairs and warned that he will be fired if he carries out similar acts. The forensic medical report showed that the inmate, who was naked, was beaten with a wooden cane five times on the left palm and arm. This led Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs for Development and Social Care Dr. Abdullah Al-Yusuf to form a committee to investigate the matter. As to the judicial aspect of the matter, the inmate's family dropped its private right to take legal action in the case filed against the supervisor at Al-Khaldia Police Station and the Commission for Investigation and Prosecution (CIP), provided the supervisor has nothing to do with their son. The Commission for Investigation and Prosecution, which accepted the plaintiff's dropping his right, said it would handle the case file. Chairman of the Lawyers' Committee in Madina Sultan Bin Zahem said the case, which has taken on criminal and behavioral dimensions, is a clear criminal act.
