Officials and 50 workers of the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center in Taif are likely to be investigated after nude photos of some inmates were posted on several websites, according to sources. The photos show special care workers removing the clothes of physically challenged inmates to give them shower in front of their colleagues. Dr. Yusuf Al-Othaimeen, Minister of Social Affairs, has sent delegates from the ministry to visit the center to investigate the matter. The minister also authorized the Director of Social Affairs in the region to the visit the center and stressed that there should be no negligence or laxity to book the culprits. The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) sent a team on a surprise visit Wednesday to the center. It promised to disclose the facts and get those involved in the crime punished. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs has ordered installation of surveillance cameras in rehabilitation centers following many cases of assault on physically challenged inmates. Hussein Al-Abbadi, Director of the Taif Rehabilitation Center, told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that surveillance cameras will become operational soon. Last month, the Health Affairs in Jeddah started training medical staff working in government hospitals, clinics and dispensaries on sign language for servicing the physically challenged.
