Saidlani Okaz/Saudi Gazette MADINAH – A man suspected in the hit-and-run accident that fatally injured a 30-year-old Yemeni expatriate in Madinah's Al-Aziziah District earlier this week has been arrested, Madinah Traffic Police announced recently. Informed security sources told the Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the victim was struck by a car doing 140 km/h. The impact caused the victim's body to be thrown several feet in the air. He died immediately due to the severity of his injuries. The man was arrested after traffic police officers noticed a car suspiciously covered in a blanket in Al-Aziziah District. When officers approached the car and lifted the blanket, they saw that the vehicle had been involved in an accident. Further inspection revealed traces of blood. The officers immediately informed the Traffic Department and asked them to review their list of reported accidents. The Traffic Department found a report of the hit-and-run accident and dispatched more officers and a forensic team to the vehicle. Fingerprints and blood samples taken from the vehicle matched the victim's and the driver was arrested and charged with manslaughter, hit-and-run and tampering with evidence. Col. Omar Al-Nazawi, spokesman of Madinah Traffic Police, commended the diligent work of the arresting officers. “There weren't any witnesses to this hit-and-run. We didn't even have a make on the vehicle. However, due to the diligent work of the police officers, we have made an arrest and come closer to solving this crime.” The victim's father expressed relief that his son's killer was behind bars and also praised the work of Madinah Police. __
