Special to Saudi Gazette BRASILIA — A 70-year-old woman, Maria Selma dos Santos, was arrested last week in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, under suspicion that she had ordered the murder of her 51-year-old son, José Fernandes dos Santos. The police said that the woman's maid, Maria José da Silva, 36, confessed to having helped her employer hire a killer to murder her son for R$20,000 (SR37,634), reported the Folha de S?o Paulo newspaper. Santos was murdered in front of his house in Duque de Caxias on Nov. 29, 2011, when two men rode up on a motorcycle and opened gunfire. Police claim that the mother had her own son killed because she wanted the family properties that were registered in his name. The family owns several residential buildings and shops in Duque de Caxias. Apart from Maria Selma and the maid, a man believed to be one of the shooters, Isaac Paulo de Moraes, 22, was also arrested. They were all taken to different units of the Bangu prison complex in the west of Rio. Police became suspicious when several witnesses came to the police station for questioning with the same lawyer that Maria Selma had hired for herself. __
