AlQa'dah 22, 1432, Oct 20, 2011, SPA -- The final of the 2014 World Cup will be played inRio de Janeiro, football's governing body FIFA said on Thursday according to dpa. In a statement FIFA said they had confirmed a proposal by thelocal organizing committee that saw the opening game being played inSao Paulo on June 12, while 10 other host cities will be involved. "Hosts Brazil will be seeded as A1 and will therefore play theopening match in Sao Paulo and the remaining two group matches inFortaleza and Brasilia," FIFA said. The other World Cup venues are: Brasilia, Cuiaba, Curitiba,Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife and Salvador. At the same meeting, FIFA also approved the match schedule for the2013 Confederations Cup, which will see matches in Brasilia, BeloHorizonte, Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro. The opening game will be held in Brasilia, while the final will bein Rio de Janeiro. FIFA also conditionally approved Recife, Salvador, pendingcompletion of building changes. The Confederations Cup is played by the continental champions, aswell as the hosts and the world champions. The Asian champions Japan,CONCACAF Gold Cup winners Mexico, South American champions Uruguay,as well as Spain and Brazil have already qualified. The champions from Europe, Africa and Oceania will also qualify.
