Seventy-five Rio de Janeiro state police officers-most from one of the city's most violent neighborhoods-were arrested Friday as part of an investigation into drug trafficking. State police Commander Colonel Hudson Aguiar said the operation arrested the largest number of police in a single sweep in the history of the state. About 200 federal police from the capital, Brasilia, were flown in for the operation, which also was supported by 330 state police Aguiar said. “We will continue to expel those who don't honor their commitment to society,” he said. Most of the arrested officers were from the Bangu battalion on Rio's poor and violent west side.
