Saudi Radio and TV have been converted into a single corporation called “Radio and TV Corporation.” Similarly, state news agency, Saudi Press Agency (SPA), has been converted into a general corporation.King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, holds talks with Senator Benjamin Nelson, Member of the Armed Services Committee of the US Senate, in Jeddah Monday. The King also received President Macky Sall of Senegal and President Prof. Alpha Condé of Guinea. – SPA These decisions were taken by the Cabinet meeting presided over by King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, here Monday. The Cabinet gave its approval to the recommendations put forward by the Higher Committee for Administrative Organization to convert the media tools into corporations. The two corporations are to be linked administratively to the Minister of Culture and Information. Each corporation will have a board of directors headed by the Minister of Culture and Information with other members drawn from various government agencies. The Council of Ministers has been authorized to appoint two members to each board from the country's intelligentsia. The major objective of the Radio and TV Corporation is to convey the Kingdom's message not only to all regions of the country but all parts of the world by using the latest and most sophisticated technology. The new corporation will make efforts to upgrade the standard of TV and radio programs. The Saudi Press Agency Corporation is mainly tasked with professionally covering various issues, events and activities locally, regionally and internationally, especially those related to the Kingdom. In doing so, the corporation will make use of all the professional and technical changes in the area of its specialization. The Experts Commission at the Council of Ministers has been given six months to prepare a draft defining the organization of the two corporations. Dr. Abdul Aziz Khoja, Minister of Culture and Information, said that on the basis of Shoura Council recommendations, the Cabinet has approved amendments to the Accredited Appraisers System. Accordingly, the new Saudi Commission for Accredited Appraisers has been set up. The Cabinet strongly condemned the massacre in the Syrian town of Houla in which more than 100 people including children and women were killed at the start of the week. The world community, the Cabinet said, should shoulder its responsibility and stop the daily bloodshed in Syria.
