Businessman fined SR40,000 By Sami Al-Maghamsi MADINA – The Grievances Board has imposed a fine of SR40,000 on a businessman for covering up for two Arab nationals in their illegal business. The two expatriates were also fined SR1,000 each. The businessman admitted to knowing the pair and working as their partner in a restaurant and grocery store business which the expatriates registered under the name of their sponsors. The man was detained and found to be in possession of a large amount of money. Investigators are looking into the matter to try and determine the source of the money. – Okaz/SG SR40, 000 worth of liquor seized in Taif By Badr Al-Qahtani and Adel Al-Thobaiti TAIF – Police in Taif arrested three Turkish men for distilling and trading liquor following a raid on their apartment in the central market area of the city on Sunday. Police seized six barrels and more than 100 bottles of alcoholic liquor with an estimated value of over SR40,000, as well as distillation equipment. One of the three suspects is a legal resident, another carried a forged residency document, and a third was an overstayer. – Okaz/SG Indian worker found hanged By Ibrahim Alawi JEDDAH – A group of Asian workers found the hanged body of one of their colleagues in the company residence in the Al-Sulaimaniya District here on Sunday. The man was found hanging by a rope attached to the ceiling of his room. Police are continuing their investigations and have not ruled out foul play. – Okaz/SG Attempted suicide by aspirin By Intisar Abu Idris DAMMAM – A man in his thirties attempted to commit suicide by taking an overdose of aspirin, authorities in the Eastern Province said on Sunday. The man, who was saved by staff in Al-Khafji Hospital, reportedly told investigators that he suffered from a psychological illness and a number of other personal difficulties. – Okaz/SG Alcohol factory found in septic tank By Al-Hassan Aal Sayyid KHAMIS MUSHAYT – The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prvention of Vice in Khamis-Mushayt have discovered Saturday an alcohol production factory using an abandoned septic tank for a container. The site, located in an abandoned house in the Al-Amara District, was reportedly frequented by numerous dealers in alcohol, until the Commission made a raid in which they arrested two and disposed of the alcohol and equipment used to produce it. – Okaz/SG 8 blocks of hashish in family car By Muhammad Atif Al-Shehri AL-MAJARIDA– A drugs smuggler was discovered at checkpoint attempting to transport eight blocks of hashish to Jeddah. The man, traveling with a family from the south of the Kingdom, raised the suspicions of security services who searched the vehicle. The man was detained for investigation while the family was returned to its home. – Okaz/SG Taxi driver's killer gives no motive By Ibrahim Alawi JEDDAH – Kandarah Police have finished interrogating the Pakistani national who stabbed an Indian taxi driver to death on Sitteen Road Thursday. The suspect refused to give a reason for the killing, and was quoted as repeatedly saying, “It's done. I killed him”. The murder caused the taxi to suddenly stop in the middle of the road, blocking traffic in Central Jeddah. Commuters shouted at the driver before seeing his passenger get out of the car with a blood-stained knife in his hand. Sources said it was likely that the crime was motivated by an argument, as the killer rode with the victim from after sunset until after midnight, when the murder was committed. The case has been referred to the Commission for Investigation and General Prosecution.
