About 5000 pending visas were stamped at Saudi embassy in Cairo and consulates in Alexandria and Suez after they reopened Sunday, Ahmed Kattan, the Saudi Ambassador to Cairo and the Kingdom's Permanent Representative at the Arab League, said. Addressing a press conference here, Kattan said there were some misguided elements who do not want good relations between the Kingdom and Egypt. “They tried to spoil the relations between the two countries, but did not succeed due to the wisdom and far-sightedness of the leadership of the two countries,” Kattan said. However, he said people of both countries should always be vigilant and thwart any attempts by miscreants to sow the seeds of mistrust. The Kingdom, he reiterated, does no wrong to anybody. Mentioning the case of Ahmad Al-Jizawee, detained in Jeddah for possessing contraband drugs, he said the lawyer was deemed to be innocent until proven guilty. “His case is before the judiciary and we will have to wait for its verdict”, he said. Kattan denied reports that the Kingdom has demanded an apology from Egypt. “We have not demanded this and it is not our custom,” he said. __
