In the next few hours the truth will be out about the suitcase full of narcotic pills which was carried by Egyptian lawyer Ahmad Muhammad Tharwat Al-Sayed, known as Al-Jizawee, sources told Saudi Gazette Friday. Al-Jizawee was arrested about two weeks ago at King Abdul Aziz International Airport by customs department personnel with the suitcase containing 21,380 pills of Xanax, which is a benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety and panic disorder. He claims that he was asked to deliver it to someone in Jeddah. Saudi investigation teams have intensified their efforts to find out the truth about the whole operation which started in Cairo and ended in Jeddah. Egyptian authorities are also conducting their own investigations to find out the identity of the person who gave the briefcase to Al-Jizawee in Cairo. Meanwhile, Shahenaz Fathi, Al-Jizawee's wife, met her husband last Thursday at the headquarters of Narcotics Bureau in Jeddah where she spent two hours with him. She was accompanied by a diplomat from the Egyptian Consulate in Jeddah. The sources told Saudi Gazette that Egyptian Deputy Consul and Consultant Maher Al-Mahdi – based in Jeddah – confirmed that Al-Jizawee is being treated well by Saudi authorities. Al-Jizawee confirmed this himself when he talked on the phone with his mother and sister in Cairo. He reassured his family that he was doing fine and being treated well. The consul talked with Al-Jizawee about law offices in Jeddah but the latter chose to appoint a Saudi lawyer he knew well. Al-Jizawee will be taken to the court Saturday where he will sign a power of attorney for his lawyer to attend court sessions. The Deputy Consul stressed that the Egyptian Embassy will provide all assistance so that truth unravels and justice prevails. – With input from Muhammad Talib Al-Ahmadi/Okaz __
