CAIRO: A traffic accident Friday claimed the lives of a Saudi diplomat, his wife and two of his children, aged three and 18 months. Three of his daughters - aged four, nine and 11 - survived. Bandar Muhammad Aal Dhafer Al-Zahrani, was the third secretary at the Kingdom's embassy in Cairo. The accident took place in Alexandria, at the Marina junction, when the family was exiting the city towards Cairo. Their car veered off the road and came to a halt under a truck. The dead and the injured were rushed by ambulance to Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Cairo and transported to Jeddah Saturday. Speaking to Okaz/Saudi Gazette, Abdul Malik Al-Zahrani, the brother of the diplomat, said he traveled to Jeddah to take delivery of the bodies and the injured. “The last time I saw Bandar was Sha'ban (July/August, 2010) when he attended our sister's marriage in Jeddah. He stayed with us for one week and then left for work in Cairo.” The Kingdom's embassy in Cairo is scheduled to receive condolences at the Saudis Hall in the consulate. The accident is being followed-up by Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Prince Khaled Bin Saud, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hisham Nazer, the Kingdom's ambassador to Cairo, and the Egyptian security agencies.
