Over 8,400 men took part in the marathon, organized by Al-Birr Society, Tuesday. About 70 disabled persons on wheelchairs also took part in the ‘Mazda lane' for the physically challenged. About 4,280 boys below 18 ran the 6-km ‘Nessma track'. And a total of 4,062 participants took part in the 21-km ‘Mobily lane' for general public and professional runners. The participants included runners from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Kenya, France and the USA. Adam Ahmad Shareef from Chad won the first place in the 3-km ‘Mazda lane' for the physically challenged. He was awarded a car and a smart phone. Fares Yeslam Al-Nahdi from Yemen came second and was awarded SR6,000 and a phone. Muhsin Ahmad Aal Ismail from Saudi Arabia came third and earned SR4,000 and a phone. Cash prizes were given to the rest of the winners from the 4th to 15th position. Similarly, cars, cash prizes and phones were distributed to winners of the ‘Nessma lane' – Ibrahim Hassan Muhammad from Chad, Abdulaziz Idris Mousa Hamid, and Yusuf Idris Mousa Hamid – and winners of the ‘Mobily lane' – Derji Tesfal Jabri Hyut from Ethiopia, Tesfai Jerma Bakiri Jerma from the US, and Muhammad Nouri Abdullah from Qatar. It is noteworthy that 61-year-old Saudi national Hamad Al-Azzabi from Riyadh was among the leading competitors in the 21-km Mobily lane and he managed to make it to the finish line. __
