Muay Thai is a combat sport from Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. It is Thailand's national sport. Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” or the “Science of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight points of contact, as opposed to two points (fists) in boxing and four points (hands and feet) used in other more regulated combat sports, such as kickboxing, and boxing. Over the last 10 years it has inspired the rise and popularity of kickboxing and mixed martial arts. Traditional martial arts instructors add Mauy Thai techniques to their training routines. Two weeks ago Prince Mohammed Bin Turki Bin Saud Al-Kabeer, President of the Saudi Muay Thai Club and the Muay Thai Association in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh, sponsored the Kingdom's first Muay Thai Tournament at Gold's Gym Grand Jeddah. Gold's Gym Jeddah celebrated its Legendary Heroes Martial Arts Academy's third anniversary by organizing the event. Prince Mohammed, Gold's Captain Mohammed Abbas, and Sport Tech's Captain Mohammed Nooh put together over 150 competitors from around the Kingdom to compete in the tournament. There were 10 different weight divisions with each division being awarded SR10,000 for first, SR 5,000 for second, and SR 3,000 for third places. KIA awarded a car to the best fighter of the tournament. At the end of the event, Captain Abbas thanked the Prince for choosing and honoring Gold's Gym to hold this competition in its boxing ring, and thanked GPYW official Ahmed Roosi for his presence and support.
