martial arts clubs employing various martial arts techniques vied for glory at the recently concluded 2nd Sphinx Shotokan Karate-do Int'l. (SSKI) Martial Arts Tournament was held at the International Philippines School in Jeddah (IPSJ). Salma Saeed of PUMA, again showed her class in the girls individual kumite and bagged the crown in the 6-9 years old division, while UMMAF-PSKAI's Jemina Lomangco took home the girls individual kumite in the 13-15 years old bracket. The Philippine Union Martial Arts Club (PUMA) of Renshi Cesar Bencito bagged the overall championship in the junior division while the United Muslims Martial Arts Federation (UMMAF), headed by Renshi Mac Tending, captured the overall championship in the seniors division. The numerous distressed OFWs being housed at the Philippine Consulate compound will be the beneficiary of the proceeds of this annual event, which was made possible through the collective efforts of various SSKI instructors namely; Romeo Rivero, Jun Loyola, Sonny Alvarez, Ben Micu Jr., Sonny Dalloran, Samuel Nacario, Joey Reyes, Vanni Gasmenia, Rudy Estepa, Ed Chavez, Angel Palaypayon, Alex Buce, Cris Ortiz and Ruben Cabigas among others. The Guardians Brotherhood International (GBI) with AB Julius “Jo” Briagas and FGMF Eldemer “Tabak” Flores, acted as tournament marshals, while MASA representatives, Teng Damiar, Andre Natabio and Andrew Ociones, also assisted in the registration and treasury committee. Vice Consul Lorenzo Jungco IV of the Philippine Consulate in Jeddah gave a short inspirational talk. Other guests included GBI founder FGRF Edison “Jedi” Cariaga, Bobby Paharito of MASA, Humayun Chaudhry and Hussain Fayez Zagzoog, representatives from Safra Company. Other sponsors who donated cash and gift items aside from Safra Company Ltd. were; Abdullah Al-Saiary of Al-Aoun Company; NCCI through Kyud Rene Morales, who made an insurance coverage; Sheikh Mohamed Jamil Farsi, provided the tournament venue; Al-Injazat Trading Corporation, distributed Nivea products; Skyfreight Forwarders through Emmy de Guzman and Danny Abinez, donated gift certificates; and Senseis Romeo Rivero and Sonny Dalloran of SSKI, donated cash.
