A Saudi patient who has been in coma for five months at a private hospital here is still waiting for a vacant bed in one of the city's government hospitals. He suffers from severe injury in the head and problems in the blood and liver. An official at the King Fahd Hospital in Madina said the patient could not be admitted because of a shortage of beds, although hospital authorities have been issued directives to admit and treat the patient. The administration of the private hospital, where the patient is currently being treated, has said it would not be responsible for any further complications. Umm Badr, the patient's mother in her 60s, narrated her son's ordeal. She said her son sustained serious injuries in a traffic accident five months ago on his way to Tabuk and was moved to a private hospital in Madina. She said he suffered a concussion and brain hemorrhage, which led him into the deep coma. The private hospital recommended his transfer to a government hospital. Higher authorities have also consented that he be admitted to King Fahd Hospital. However, the hospital authorities refused admission saying that there was no vacant bed. According to Umm Badr, doctors of the private hospital say the delay in proper treatment has resulted in serious medical complications and that her son has now entered into an irreversible coma.
