Municipality officials in Ajyad District here Tuesday seized over 300 kg of rotten poultry, vegetables and other foodstuffs. Over 80 kitchen utensils were confiscated as they did not meet health standards. The municipality also raided restaurants and warehouses near the Grand Mosque and found that they did not meet minimum health standards. Abdul Aziz Al-Saqabi, Director of Ajyad Municipality, said inspection visits have been intensified to ensure the health safety of Umrah performers. Many restaurants were found to be unhygienic using unhealthy methods in preparing food, he added. Unlicensed shops were fined between SR10,000-SR2,000, he said pointing out that the municipality will not hesitate to take necessary measures against violators. Many field teams were formed to carry out surprise inspection visits to malls, groceries and restaurants as well as other shops. __
