Unstable weather conditions will continue to affect the Kingdom, with an increased likelihood of thunderstorms and dust-laden winds, the Directorate General of Civil Defense warned, Sunday. It said people should stay clear of potentially dangerous places and comply with Civil Defense instructions. Reports from the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) indicated fluctuating weather conditions over the Kingdom in the next few days. The PME expects rainfall, thunder and the formation of cumulus clouds and dusty winds. The directorate issued the following instructions when there is rainfall: Never leave home unless necessary; do not pitch a tent in the center or the sides of valleys; always check your home and ensure it is rain-resistant; and listen to the radio and watch television to stay in touch with the latest news. If you are outside, keep a close eye on roads, bridges and low areas and do not attempt to cross a road if the water level is above your knees. When driving, do not venture in places where the water level is not clear. If your car breaks down, leave it and move on foot to an elevated area because your car could be caught in a flood. Be more careful at night and keep a close eye on the road. Heavy rain which falls for short period of time can be followed by torrents especially in mountainous areas, the Civil Defense warned. The capital city has seen unseasonal rain showers recently. On Sunday just before noon, Riyadh residents experienced thunder, lightning and a spell of hail for about 30 minutes. Temperatures dropped amid a slightly cold wind but the city warmed up soon afterwards as the sun appeared behind the high-lying clouds. There were no immediate reports of any accidents or traffic problems. Earlier this month, the Kingdom was hit by massive sandstorms emanating from the Sahara Desert in North Africa, which caused major disruptions to traffic, schools, universities, airports and ports. ?
