The Jeddah Governorate has upgraded its readiness for possible floods because more rain has been forecast for the city by the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME).
Brig. Gen. Abdullah Bin Hasan Jiddawi, Director of the Civil Defense in Jeddah said several measures have been put in place in case of emergencies.
He confirmed deploying many rescue and safety teams to the valley areas. Also, teams are constantly watching the sewage lake for any possibility of an overflow.
He said teams are also monitoring the precautionary dams east of the highway in Jeddah, including the sewage lake and the Al-Samer 3 District's dam. He said the public will be warned in time if there is any danger. He said that more than 12 Civil Defense teams have been deployed in the Al-Sawa'ed and Kilo 14 districts and the Muraikh, Ushair and Qows valleys.
The PME has confirmed in a statement that there is a threat of rain-bearing cumulus thunder clouds over the southern and western highlands. This includes parts of the coastal areas neighboring the highlands as well as the highlands in Taif, Al-Baha, Asir, Jizan and the Makkah regions. Rain is also expected in the governorates of Jeddah, Al-Leeth and Al-Qunfudha.
The PME said the regions of Madina and Hail might have rainfall. Also, there would be active surface winds in the inland areas in the Southern, Central and Northern regions that would raise dust and lower visibility.
A spokesman for PME said the weather on Monday would be cloudy to partially cloudy with the chance of rainfall over the northwestern parts of the Kingdom including the Tabuk region up to the northern parts of Madina.
This would also be accompanied by wind that would cause raise dust and limit visibility in parts of the Central Region and parts of the inland areas in the western region extending up to the northwest.
In another development, two youths between 10 and 20 years of age were injured when a wall collapsed on them during a downpour in Adham town on Saturday night. The two were given first aid and rushed to King Abdul Aziz Hospital in Jeddah.
