Some 134 restaurants were shut down and 2,194 eateries were fined SR245,300 by Dammam Mayoralty for violating hygiene rules, said Muhammad Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Safayan, Director of Public Relations at the Mayoralty. He said some of the violations discovered by inspectors were employing workers who did not have health certificates, bad food storage conditions and using foodstuff unfit for human consumption. Health inspectors take photos to serve as circumstantial evidence against violators and write down the violations in the guest books kept by the violating restaurants. Inspectors also demonstrate to restaurants the rules of hygiene which must be followed, he said.
