RIYADH: There is more than one government agency that monitors and oversees health safety standards for home food deliveries in the city, according to Sulaiman Al-Bathi, Director General of the Health Environment Department at Riyadh Mayoralty. Al-Bathi said all the branches of the mayoralty are directly involved in issuing licenses to restaurants which provide this service; and also ensures that all home delivery staff has health certificates. Over the past few months 1,200 motor cycles were discovered to have violated regulations. Government inspectors make sure that service providers stick to licensing criteria, including the colors of their cars and restaurant logos. He said there are 60,000 establishments providing the service in the capital city, including 11,000 grocery stores and more than 23,000 restaurants. He said last year the department confiscated over one million kilograms of foodstuff unfit for human consumption, half of which was canned food.
