Some 45,000 students from all over the Kingdom participated in the Olympiad of Scientific Creativity which concluded here Wednesday at the King Fahd Cultural Center. The Olympiad has reached its final stage and the projects of 71 students out of 400 have qualified to represent the Kingdom in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in the United States (ISEF) which is the largest pre-college scientific research event in the world. The Olympiad consisted of two tracks: Research and innovation. The first place in the research track in the boys category was secured by Naif Al-Hamoud with his project entitled “Environment-friendly chemical incentives for Suzuki water reactions”. Fatima Al-Abdullatif secured the first position in the girls category with her project entitled “Designing cyrillic pentamidine to produce amino acids”. The first place in the innovation track for boys was won by Ali Al-Anzi with a project entitled “Diabetics helper”. Lamya Aal Al-Shiekh with a project entitled “Pen of measurement”, secured the first position in the girls category. The Olympiad was organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education under the sponsorship of SABIC and the Saudi Research and Marketing Group. The concluding ceremony was held under the patronage of Prince Sattam Bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Riyadh region, and was attended by Prince Faisal Bin Abdullah, Minister of Education, and John Davies, Vice President of Intel, who described the gathering as one of the biggest in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
