Falak, Al-Darajah and Al-Jawad Al-Abayed roundabouts By Ahmad Al-Silami Okaz/Saudi Gazette JEDDAH – King Fahd Road will be turned into a highway in two years to reduce traffic congestion, said Dr. Ibrahim Katabkhana, Undersecretary of Construction Projects at Jeddah Mayoralty. Work has already started on the new highway that will be extended from Al-Mina Bridge in south Jeddah to north of King Abdul Aziz International Airport. Katabkhana told Okaz/Saudi Gazette that the mayoralty will sign the contracts within three months. Underpasses and bridges will be constructed along Al-Falak and Al-Jawad Al-Abayed roundabouts and the intersection of Prince Sultan Bin Salman. “Implementation will take two years.” Jeddah Mayoralty signed Sunday the first contract to transform Al-Falak Roundabout to a bridge and underpass, he added. Five new service contracts for Jeddah roads and streets have been signed at a total cost of SR250 million; and four contracts signed worth SR35 million to close potholes on streets, he said. “Jeddah Mayoralty is also working on developing Prince Sultan Road and King Abdul Aziz Road and transforming them into highways.” __
