Team repaired damaged electrical connections for poor familiesDAMMAM – For the first time in the Kingdom's history, 30 Saudi women have received training to become electricians, painters and plumbers, said Zainab Abdul Ghafour, Head of the Family Guidance and Education Section at Wed Charitable Society in Al-Khobar. Ghafour was quoted in a section of the Arabic press as saying that the women were trained for three months in the traditional male-dominated professions. This could be the start of many more such training courses for Saudi women, she added. She said the team repaired damaged electrical connections in the houses of needy families. The society has set up a small office and established telephone lines to receive calls from needy citizens who have problems with their toilets or electrical connections or need their homes painted. If the program is a success, it might become a full-time profession for these females. She said the society currently pays them a stipend. Ghafour said the diligence and interest shown by the females is motivating the society to introduce these vocational programs at its branches. She said the society is planning to set up a chain of clubs for elderly women and men in various parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, equipped with all the necessary equipment.
