King Abdullah and Crown Prince Naif Bin Abdul Aziz are keen to see the development of unplanned districts in Makkah region, said Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, Saturday. He made the comments during an event to establish the Prince Khaled Al-Faisal Chair for Unplanned Districts and Areas in Makkah Region at Umm Al-Qura University. The Emir said that this was the first project he referred to the King, who along with the Crown Prince, is keen to see it succeed. “At first, a committee of three ministers chaired by Prince Naif was formed. The number of ministers then increased to six. So from an idea it has become a project that is being implemented,” he said. He said the development of unplanned districts was not merely demolishing buildings and constructing new ones. “There are Islamic, human, economic, cultural, medical, social and psychological problems that need to be solved under the stable, secure and financially-strong capability the Kingdom is enjoying,” he said. He added that the project is based on participation from public and private sectors and that it cannot succeed without the cooperation of all segments of the society.
