Khobar Municipality confiscated 1.5 tons of rotten meat at an Indian restaurant in Al-Thoqba District in Al-Khobar on Monday, said Essam Abdul Lateef Al-Mulla, Head of the Municipality, Al-Hayat Arabic daily reported on Tuesday. He said the preventive health authorities at the municipality, acting on a tip-off, found that the eatery lacked basic hygiene. In addition, most of the workers did not have health certificates showing they are free of infectious diseases. The place was full of cockroaches and insects and the workers were housed in the restaurant, all of which were major violations necessitating the closure of the eatery. He said the team destroyed 1.5 tons of rotten meat and handed the workers over to the authorities concerned. He urged citizens and expatriates to report such restaurants on the toll-free number 8977587, extension 444. Dr. Waleed Al-Hassan, Head of the Health Preventive Department at Al-Khobar Municipality, said his team regularly inspects restaurants to ensure the safety of consumers.
