Faisal, Emir of Makkah region, has stressed on the need to contain the growth of unplanned districts and emphasized that these areas have to be developed to provide relief to the citizens. Addressing the tenth meeting of the Executive Committee for the Development of Unplanned Districts in Makkah, the Emir reiterated the government's desire to tackle undeveloped districts by simultaneously developing Makkah, Jeddah and Taif areas according to a set of rules approved by the King. He pointed out that most of the establishments taking part in the projects are government bodies including Jeddah Company for Urban Development (Al-Balad) and Al-Amin Company which are 100% government-owned companies He also pointed out that the projects are funded by the government and called on mayoralties and private bodies to shoulder their responsibilities in urban progress. Dr. Sami Barhamain, Secretary General of Development of Makkah and Holy Sites, showcased the development plan for road and train networks. The committee on the projects for the development of unplanned districts were then briefed by Dr. Hani Abu Ras, Mayor of Jeddah. He pointed out that the Jeddah Company for Urban Development has already started work on development projects at Al-Ruwais and Khuzam Districts. He also briefed the committee on the studies carried out for the development of Al-Ghulail and Petromen districts. The meeting was attended among others by mayors of Jeddah, Taif and Makkah and the Executive President of the Saudi Electricity Company and Jeddah National Water Company.
