ESTABLISHED in 1982, IIS Dammam is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and enjoys the unique status of the largest Indian education institution outside India with over 19,000 students and a 1,000-strong faculty. The school is functioning under community management and governed by a managing committee elected by the parents under the patronage of Embassy of India, Riyadh. It had a humble beginning in few porta-cabins with 250 students and 15 teachers with classes LKG – IV. At present, the school has 600 classrooms in two sprawling campuses (boys and girls sections) with all modern amenities. It caters to the educational needs of Indian children in the age group of 3 – 17 years in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The school has world-class infrastructure — two massive multipurpose halls, indoor and outdoor games facilities, gymnasiums fully equipped with modern amenities, sophisticated laboratories for all major subjects, automated libraries having a collection of over 60,000 volumes, healthcare and first aid facilities, etc. As manifestation of its commitment to community cause, IIS Dammam has a ‘Special Child Care Section' attending to children with special needs. Presently 40 children under seven years of age are taken care of here by professionally trained teachers with special infrastructure. The school offers special coaching programs for high achiever students and intensive remedial sessions for low achievers. It conducts coaching classes for SAT and an action plan is ready to start coaching for AIEEE/JEE and NEET as well. Preliminary formalities are completed to comply with the norms of National Institute of Open School (NIOS) and it will be a reality in the new academic session. The School Career Guidance Cell conducts Annual Career Expo with the participation of prominent universities and educational institutes from India, Europe, United States, Canada and the Middle East. Counseling facilities are active in senior sections under trained counselors. Educational Exhibition ‘EDUEX' and Science Exhibition ‘SPECTRA' are conducted annually. 700-strong contingents of Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Bunnies, Cubs and Bulbuls are taking training in the school; regular training is also imparted in martial arts, sports and other games. Routine activities are conducted by the School Band and Choir Group. Scholastic events are a regular feature under the literary and social clubs. The school has proven record of academic excellence with 100% pass results qualitatively comparable with any leading CBSE schools in India as well as in the Middle East. In 2016 Board Examination of Class XII, IIS Dammam presented 671 students and obtained 100% results. Samarth Shah obtained 97% in Science and stood first in the Kingdom. Yusra Khan with 96.6% topped in the Kingdom in Commerce stream. 139 students achieved A1 Grades in all five subjects in the Class X CBSE Examination 2016. For the seventh consecutive year, IIS Dammam was adjudged as the overall champions in the Cluster Meet of Saudi Chapter of CBSE affiliated schools in 2016. The school team has put up an impressive performance in the CBSE National Meet too. We have won silver medal in triple jump and bronze in 100 meters relay. A number of IIS Dammam teachers attended various study workshops and orientation programs and Scout and Guide Masters Training Camps. The school is governed by a Managing Committee of seven members duly elected by the parents for a term of three (3) years. This elected body is presently chaired by Mohammed Abdul Waris. M. Hasnain (Deputy Chairman), Dr. Abdussalam Kanniyan, Rashed Omer, Irfan Iqbal Khan, Dr. Zainul Abiddin, and Dr. Francis Borgeo are the other members. Dr. E. K. Mohammed Shaffe, principal & HOI, serves as the member secretary to the Managing Committee. A high level delegation of officials from the Ministry of Education, KSA, has visited the school and expressed appreciation on the overall performance of the school; The school is steadfastly pursuing its noble mission of molding the young Indians who are away from their motherland and we thankfully remember the services of those great personalities who made this possible.
