DUBAI – Saudi race driver Abdulaziz Al-Faisal had a successful start to his 2017 Motorsport season as he secured third spot in the overall classification among 92 cars of the Hankook 24H Dubai (Jan. 12-14) at the Dubai Autodrome. After 575 laps, Al-Faisal of Falcon team crossed the line to finish third in his Mercedes-AMG GT3. [caption id="attachment_113257" align="alignright" width="300"] Saud Al-Faisal on the podium with his team[/caption]The other Saudi driver, Saud Turki Al-Faisal, also achieved a remarkable achievement in motorsport for his team and Saudi Arabia, when he came first in the "991 Cup" group to finish 12th overall. As he stood on the podium, Abdulaziz said: "We are very pleased with the result and it was a good start to the year for the team. This year's 24H Dubai race was very tough but we were very determined to continue our domination of this race in its 12th year." He added that he managed to defend his position successfully and booked himself the 3rd place on the coronation podium. On the other hand, Saud Turki Al-Faisal also expressed his joy over his victory, saying he worked hard to ensure that he won the race (991 Cup). He said: "This result represents a cornerstone for me; as it comes in the early stage of the season. It will spur us to make it a great season." Known as a highly demanding endurance race, the Hankook 24H Dubai is renowned for thinning the grid as the hours tick by. Of the 92 cars that started, only 65 made it to the checkered flag. The challenge attracted top drivers from around the world, with 2017 featuring racing celebrities such as three-time 24 Hours of Le Mans champion Marcel Fässler and ex-Formula 1 stars Jean-Eric Vergne and Robert Kubica.
