National poultry companies have already used up the SR350 million government subsidy granted last July. Now the prices of frozen poultry have risen to SR15.25 a kilo and SR16.5 for 1.1 kilos. One kilo of national poultry now costs between SR12.5-SR15. Last July, a kilo cost just SR10.5-SR11.5. Economic expert Abdul Rahman Al-Ghamdi said the previous decrease in poultry prices didn't exceed a few halalas. “We were certain that these companies would compensate the decrease by raising the prices later. A kilo of frozen poultry is SR15 again.” Al-Ghamdi pointed out that optimists expected poultry, cattle and eggs prices to decrease following the subsidy but this didn't happen. “The annual fodder subsidy is estimated at around SR350 million because farms produce 600,000 chickens daily; however, most of the subsidy went into the pockets of investors.” __
