Students seek urgent redressal to parking problem at Umm Al-Qura
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 12 - 2016

MAKKAH — Umm Al-Qura University students have complained that they were facing difficulty to park their vehicles at university premises due to illegal occupation of the parking area by limousines and girls' transport buses and had to pay traffic fines for wrong parking.
University students and residents of nearby districts in Aziziyah have called upon the Traffic Department to correct the situation by preventing taxis and buses from parking at university premises and imposing fines on violators of parking rules.
"The tickets we receive from traffic police everyday for wrong parking have increased our financial burden. Moreover, we waste a lot of time looking for a suitable parking place outside the campus," said Osama Abdul Rahman.
He said taxis and girls' transport buses take a good share of the parking area outside the campus in Aziziyah, forcing boys' students to park their vehicles in public places.
"This situation has created traffic congestion in the district," he told Okaz/Saudi Gazette. "Moreover, the staff and students have become victims of traffic fines," he added.
Khaled Al-Luqmani urged the Traffic Department to solve the confusion created by the parking of limousine taxis and girls' buses at university parking lots.
"These vehicles are placed at the parking lots even during vacation," he pointed out. "Main victims of this violation are staff and students as well as residents of nearby districts."
Abdullah Al-Zahrani urged the university and Traffic Department to take punitive action against the violators of parking rules, adding that they obstruct smooth traffic flow in Aziziyah.
"We students waste lots of time looking for a place to park our cars. Wrong parking has forced us to pay fines while the tension caused by the situation has affected our studies and results," Al-Zahrani said.
Meanwhile, an informed source at the university confirmed that taxis and girls' buses have been occupying parking lots outside the university. He urged the Traffic Department to take action against violators and remove the parking problem faced by students and staff.
