Okaz/Saudi Gazette DAMMAM — Throwing a cigarette butt on the street from your car window will cost you SR100 in fine, according to Director General of Traffic Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Zahrani. "The fine will also cover pedestrians," he explained. Zahrani said that pedestrians who do not abide by traffic rules ignoring the sections of the roads specified for them will also be treated as traffic violators. He considered these to be fourth category violations which also include using unlicensed equipment or displaying slogans on vehicles. The director said leaving a car in a place which is not specified as a parking lot will also be considered a violation and will incur fines. "Throwing garbage on the street from a car is a punishable offense," he said. The director said the violations also include driving a car without number plate. Pedestrians not using the zebra lines to cross streets also violate traffic laws. "When pedestrians fail to abide by the signs especially made for them, they will be considered violators and hence dealt with accordingly," he said. The director urged motorists to keep the city clean.
