Raheem Sterling struck the winning goal as Manchester City reinvigorated its Premier League challenge by coming from behind to defeat title rival Arsenal 2-1 Sunday. Arsenal took an early lead through Theo Walcott, but just as in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Everton, it wilted in the second half as Pep Guardiola's City stormed back at the Etihad Stadium. Leroy Sane equalized two minutes into the second period before Sterling netted a 71st-minute winner, lifting City above Arsenal into second place, seven points adrift of leader Chelsea. Arsenal slipped to fourth, below Liverpool on goal difference, and will be cast further adrift of the leading pack if Jurgen Klopp's men win at Everton in Monday's Merseyside derby. Following recent heavy losses to Chelsea and Leicester City, it gave City a first win over a fellow top-six club since its 2-1 success at Manchester United in early September. Having gone 14 league games unbeaten, Arsenal has now lost successive matches. With Chelsea nine points above them, manager Arsene Wenger will once again face questions about his ability to end the club's 12-year league title drought. City's players walked out wearing shirts bearing the name of teammate Ilkay Gundogan, who is set to miss the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Watford. Tottenham Hotspur came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1, with Danny Rose scoring the winner with just under 20 minutes left. Ashley Barnes put the visitors ahead in the 21st minute but the lead lasted only six minutes, Dele Alli equalizing from a cross by Kyle Walker. Another England international, full back Rose, hit a fierce winning goal from a pass by Moussa Sissoko, who could have been sent off earlier for a challenge on Stephen Ward. Tottenham stays fifth, 10 points behind leader Chelsea, while Burnley remain three points above the relegation places. Earlier, Jay Rodriguez ended a near four-month Premier League goal drought with a double strike as Southampton recovered strongly from conceding an early goal to win the south coast derby at Bournemouth 3-1. Chelsea loanee Nathan Ake, who recently scored a last-gasp winner against Liverpool, headed the home side in front in the sixth minute from an excellent cross by Jack Wilshere. Southampton equalized eight minutes later with a low drive by England fullback Ryan Bertrand. An inspired halftime change brought on Steven Davis to set up Rodriguez, who then made sure of the win five minutes from the end with his second goal, a superb effort from distance. The result sent Southampton up two places to seventh, three points ahead of Bournemouth, who stayed 10th.
