Chelsea moved nine points clear at the top of the Premier League on Tuesday with a 1-1 draw at Liverpool. David Luiz's free-kick put the Blues in front at Anfield but Georginio Wijnaldum headed in an equalizer. Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet then preserved a point for his side by saving Diego Costa's penalty. "It is never easy to play here at Anfield and win points," Luiz told BT Sport. "We had an opportunity to win (the) game, and we're unlucky we didn't win it. "But it was a good result." Chelsea were able to extend their lead as neither Arsenal nor Tottenham, who started the night eight points behind, won. Arsenal were beaten 2-1 at home by Watford and dropped to third on goal difference below Tottenham, who were held 0-0 at relegation-threatened Sunderland. Luiz opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a free-kick as Mignolet was still organizing his wall. Wijnaldum responded early in the second half by nodding home James Milner's headed cross. Chelsea then looked set for a winner when Joel Matip took down Costa but Mignolet made up for his earlier mistake by saving the penalty. It prevented the Reds from losing four straight at home for the first time since 1923. "I'm not sure happy is the right word to say how I'm feeling, but I'm proud of the boys because they did outstanding things against a really good side," Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said. Arsenal's title hope were dealt a heavy blow by their shock loss to Watford. Younes Kaboul and Troy Deeney put the visitors two goals up after just 13 minutes at the Emirates Stadium. Alex Iwobi pulled one back in the second half and Arsenal were later denied a second when Lucas Perez hit the crossbar. "It was obvious we lost duels and were not sharp enough," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. "It looked more mentally that we were not ready for the challenges. "When you play at home in our position, that is not normal." Tottenham dominated in settling for the draw at Sunderland which lifted them to second. Spurs had 73-per-cent possession and 14 shots but were unable to break through as Sunderland moved off the bottom of the table. Scott Dann and Christian Benteke scored as Crystal Palace won 2-0 at Bournemouth for manager Sam Allardyce's first league win. Sam Vokes had the only goal in Burnley's win over champions Leicester, who fell to 16th place and are just two points clear of the relegation places. Swansea stayed two points clear of the drop by beating Southampton 2-1 and Alvaro Negredo's penalty gave Middlesbrough a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich. Manchester City visit West Ham, Manchester United host Hull City and Stoke face Everton in Wednesday's games.
