A function was organized on Nov. 26 in the chancery premises to mart the Constitution Day on the 126th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of India's constitution. The two-hour long program started with the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution in Hindi and English by Consul General Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh to about 200 attendees, including prominent members of the community, OCIs and media persons, in addition to the officers and staff members of the consulate, who all repeated the Preamble after the consul general. Later, the consul general delivered a speech on "Distinctive features of the Indian constitution" by tracing the genesis of the constitution making. He also threw light on the labor and hard work put in by the members of the Drafting Committee led by Baba Saheb Ambedkar in making the constitution. An essay competition on the constitution was also organized on the occasion. The topics given were: "Role of the constitution in safeguarding Indian democracy", and "The constitution of India: An epitome of social justice and empowerment". Several people participated in the competition. Cash prizes were given to the winners. The first prize was won by Abdul Hameed Naik, Vice consul (CW), the second prize went to Najmuddin, clerk (CW) and the third prize was a tie between Kishan Lal (steno) and Shri Salman Ahmad (ASO). A photo exhibition on Baba Saheb was also organized using the photos sent by the ministry. At the end of the program, the audience took a round of the exhibition led by the consul general.
