The Consulate General of India, Jeddah, recently marked the first Constitution Day of India, declared as Nov. 26 by the government of India, at its premises with fanfare. The event was chaired by Consul General B.S. Mubarak. Speaking on the occasion the Consul General congratulated the Indian community for marking the day. He said that it was a great day because on this day in 1949 the Constitution of India was adopted in the Constituent Assembly though it came into effect from Jan. 26, 1950, which is the Republic Day of India. Mohammad Raghib Qureshi, head of chancery, who conducted the program, spoke about the salient and unique features of the constitution. Besides the consulate officials, a number of teachers and students from International Indian School, Jeddah participated in the program and spoke on various aspects of the constitution. Ms. Raida Khan of Class X spoke on ‘the making of the constitution of India', while Reuben Roy of Class XII described ‘the Preamble and the features of Indian Constitution'. From teachers, Mrs. Kausar Sultana, spoke on ‘the fundamental duties' enshrined in the constitution and Mohammad Imran discussed ‘the Impact of Indian Constitution on Social and Political change in India'.
