RIYADH — Sama Steel and CKK got their second win and Pakistan Falcons opened its account in the points table with a comprehensive win in the ongoing YWC-16. In match 6, Lahore Lions won the toss and elected to field. Batting first, Sama Steel was all out for 342 in 38 overs. Opener Nasir's blistering 69 (22 balls, 4x9, 6x5) with Asif Butt's 72 (4x5) and Raja Ijaz's 79 (45, 4x8, 6x1) piled the runs. Saud (4-64) and Obeid (4-55) picked up the bulk of wickets. Chasing the score was not so easy due to the steady bowling of Raja Ijaz (3-49), Asif Khan (3-45), Kamran (2-50) and Ramzan (2-49). Only Mansoor (36 — 22, 4x7), Obeid (35 — 32, 4x3), Qamar (31) and Fahad (28) spent some time at the wicket and took the score to 256 in 37.3 overs. Raja Ijaz was chosen as the Player of the Match. In the 7th league match, Pakistan Falcons defeated GK Stars by 101 runs. The architect of the victory was Falcons' captain Hamza Abbasi. He put up a fine all-round performance (157 — 94, 4x16, 6x3) and 3-66). Electing to bat, Falcons openers Yassir (102 - 63, 4x17) and Waseem (34 — 17) gave a good start and it was consolidated by Hamza and Matiullah (42). Mujahid (3-55), Abubaker (2-65) were the main wicket-takers. Chasing the highest total of the tournament, GK Stars kept losing the wickets. Bilal Wani (122 — 56, 4x15, 6x5), Abubaker (45) and Kashif Kareem (35 — 25) put up some resistance. Awais Abbasi (3-52), Hamza Abbasi (3-66) and Matiullah (2-41) bundled out GK Stars for 294 in 33.2 overs. Hamza Abbasi was awarded the Player of the Match trophy. The last match of the day between KFSH Blues and CKK was match of fluctuating fortunes. KFSH captain Nasir Abbasi called the toss right and elected to bat. The morning session belonged to opener Nadeem Babar who became the first batsman in YWC to carry the bat through with a masterly 160 (124, 4x20, 6x3). He got good support from Syed Adeel (52 — 30, 4x6, 6x2), Muddasir Ali (34) and Munawar Shafi (28) to set a total of 316-6 in the allotted 40 overs. Ali Shahid (3-65) and Ismail (2-46) were the wicket-takers. CKK chase was led by Nauman Ashgar (80 — 54, 11x4), Imran Kifayat (58, 9x4) and Asif Butt (45). Mateen Abbasi (2-61) and Iftikhar Ali (2-50) scalped CKK wickets. It was a seesaw battle between the two teams but when 26 runs needed in 26 balls with 3 wickets remaining for CKK, bad light stopped the play. This tense match should have been ended in the normal way but was decided by Duckworth–Lewis method. Official umpires of the match declared CKK winners by 15 runs.
