RIYADH — The All India United Society (AIUS) launched the fourth edition of the Independence Cup 2016 at a colorful ceremony here recently. This tourney is organized by AIUS every year to mark the Independence Day of India. The trophies for winner and runner-up were unveiled during the launching ceremony. Anil Nautiyal, first secretary, community services, Embassy of India, was the chief guest, while Chairman of Saudi Tourism Committee Mohammed Abraheam Al-Mojel attended the event as a guest of honor. They unveiled the trophies in the presence of captains of all participating teams. Addressing the gathering, Nautiyal praised the activities of AIUS and lauded its services to the Indian community. He also appreciated AIUS for conducting cricket tournament and organizing other functions to celebrate the important events of India. Al-Mojel said both the countries have good relations for many decades and assured to support Indian tourism. Prominent businessman Dr. Nadeem Tarin also spoke on the occasion and wished all the best for AIUS activities. Dr. Mohammed Ashraf Ali, president, AIUS, welcomed the guests. Mohammed Rafeeq, vice president, gave the details of the tournament. In all, 14 teams are participating in the tournament and seven matches will be played every Friday. The men of the matches will be given special awards. AIUS feted Nautiyal for best community service. Al-Mojel presented mementos to sponsors. On this occasion AIUS felicitated two talented students who bought laurels to the Indian community in Saudi Arabia —table tennis player Amaanur Rahman, who grabbed many medals in the national and international tournaments and young scientist Zain Ahmed Samdani who represented Saudi Arabia at the Google science fair which was recently held in the United States and was selected as the global finalist. Earlier, Hafez Khaja Aleemuddin recited verses from Holy Qur'an. Mohammed Azizuddin, vice president, education, conducted the proceedings and Syed Kareem Khalid, general secretary proposed a vote of thanks. Azhar Khan, sports secretary is in charge of the tournament. The sponsors are Mumtaz Group, Dar Zeba Contracting, Al-Kabeer and Masah Contracting.
