PISJ Al-Aziziya motivates students through Science Fair

JEDDAH — Promoting science and motivating students in the field is not an easy task. The school system usually does not provide such platforms where interest in the subject could develop and thrive. When science is taught out of context and seems irrelevant to the lives of students; they lose interest. If students' motivation is disregarded; science is just a theory and a fat book for them.
With an aim of providing students with positive and realistic demonstrations of science, Pakistan International School, Al- Aziziya, organized the ‘Science fair' under the aegis of the principal and the vice principal. The idea behind the fair was to represent students' efforts and interests, actualize the concepts they have learned in the classroom whilst providing the way for them to share it with others.
The ‘Science Fair' was organized by the Academic Council under the supervision of Vice Principal Farhat Naeem from grade 6-12. The Science fair for G6-8 was conducted by coordinator Amina Farooqi and Science convener Saira Ashraf.
The fair allowed students to prepare their science models and demonstrate their interest in front of the audience. It provided students with a unique hands-on learning experience at the same time as satisfying their own curiosity about the world around them.
"Students participated individually and in groups passionately, which helped them in learning and discovering science. It provided the students with an opportunity to experiment, demonstrate and research on the things that interest them," said Amina Farooqui, "It is important that students overcome the fear, become innovative and creative to improve their understanding of science subjects," she added.
Farhat Naeem took keen interest in the Science fair as well as encouraged and appreciated the participants. She believes that students acquire skill and knowledge through these kinds of extracurricular activities providing a long term learning experience.
The Science fair was divided into three categories: Charts and Models exhibition, in addition to Quiz. The science teachers Shehnaz Fatima, Khola and Saira Saeed judged the models and charts.
