Published in The Saudi Gazette on 20 - 10 - 2016

MOBILY and Ericsson have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and test selected 5G use-cases and deployment scenarios in Saudi Arabia. In addition, the agreement covers technical cooperation and field demonstrations as well as 4G to 5G evolution. The MOU was signed during GITEX 2016 in Dubai.
The MOU was signed on the sidelines of Gitex Dubai, since Engineer Mohamed Al Badrani, Senior Executive Officer Network Engineering, signed the MOU on behalf of chief technology officer at Mobily and Ali Eid, Head of Ericsson Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Palestine on behalf of Ericsson.
5G offers tremendous flexibility, greater capacity, high security, higher data rates and lower latency. It will help deliver a new wave of innovation which will benefit both consumers and a wide range of industries. 5G will open up new markets to Internet of Things (IoT), enabling massive connectivity and allowing new applications for consumers and enterprises such as smart transportation, connected cars, remote healthcare and remote control of machinery.
The MOU is aimed to draw a roadmap to bring 5G to Saudi consumers offering seamless experience on their connected devices. In addition, it will open the doors for the digitalization of Saudi industries and society allowing for completely new business models hence supporting the Kingdom's vision 2030.
Al Badrani said "Mobily is committed to bringing the latest technology and cutting-edge services to its customers. 5G opens the door for new applications that will transform consumer behavior and industries."
Mobily and Ericsson have a long and successful history of collaboration and this new initiative on 5G demonstrates the joint commitment in bringing new technologies and innovations to the Saudi market that can support the country's economic growth and development.
