Saudi relations in the cultural field are also intensifying, especially after Germany's participation as guest country at the 30th Janadriyah Festival in February 2016. The German cultural institute, the Goethe Institute, has been offering German courses since May 2014. It has now opened up a second branch in Umm Al Hamam in June 2016. Students can now learn German in a spacious villa with the latest technology in small classes with qualified teachers, many of them German native speakers. Courses are being offered at all levels, beginners to advanced, and students have the chance to get their knowledge of German as a foreign language certified by internationally recognized exams. These will also be accepted in the visa process if students wish to pursue their higher education at a German university. Those who want to find out more about options to study in Germany can contact the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). DAAD is now being represented by Michael Alszer who is, since September 2016, teaching German at King Saud University. He is regularly offering information sessions on how to study in Germany in cooperation with the Goethe Institute. The German Embassy is also proud that the German International School Riyadh is growing. Parents and kids alike enjoy education "made in Germany" for children aged 3 to 16. For the first time in the more than 40 years of history in the Kingdom, the German International School had to open two first grades to meet the demand. Currently, more than 160 students are being educated at the German International School Riyadh. The German Embassy and the German cultural institutions are working hard together with our valued Saudi partners to deepen our cultural relations and thus contribute to mutual understanding. The Saudi "Vision 2030" will offer more opportunities to interact closely in the cultural field, and we are looking forward to being part of it. — SG
