Schumacher Jr. suffers Formula Four setback
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 09 - 08 - 2016

Mick Schumacher, the 17-year-old son of stricken Formula One legend Michael Schumacher, suffered a controversial blow in his bid to win the German Formula 4 championship Sunday.
The German teenager was second in the drivers' championship behind Australia's Joey Mawson and a victory for Schumacher Junior Saturday in the first of three races this weekend at the famous Nurburgring had closed the gap.
But Schumacher finished 15th in the second race Sunday morning after race officials judged the German made contact with Mawson while racing and was handed a drive-through penalty, which cost him the chance to take points.
In the third and final race of the day, Schumacher then finished second, leaving him 46 points behind Mawson with six races left this season.
"It's a pity that the outcome was decided by Mick getting a drive-through penalty," said Mawson. "He made one small mistake which cost him dearly. But that's racing.
"Anyway, I was lucky not to have been taken out by the move.
"I never thought that the gap in the standings would be so great. Now we just have to continue in the same fashion — scoring points and finishing on the podium."
Schumacher's next chance to take points is at the Zandvoort track in the Netherlands on Aug. 19-21 before the season finishes at Germany's Hockenheim circuit on Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
The teenager's success behind the wheel this season comes as his father, a seven-time world champion, continues his rehabilitation at home from head injuries suffered in a skiing accident in December 2013.
