Saudi Gazette MAKKAH — The passport police of Makkah Province have nabbed more than 207,140 illegal expatriates in the past six months, according to Makkah Police spokesman Col. Atti Al-Qurashi. He said in collaboration with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, 903 expatriates were apprehended for violating the labor law. The spokesman said 9,016 expatriates were arrested for begging and other illegal practices in collaboration with the Committee to Combat Begging. Al-Qurashi said the crackdown campaigns against violators of residency and labor rules were continuing unabated. He asked citizens and legal residents never to harbor illegal expatriates and to cooperate with the passport police by informing about them. Under the Saudi residency laws, any Umrah or Haj pilgrim who overstays in the Kingdom after the expiry of visa will be imprisoned for a period of at least six months and fined an amount of SR50,000.
