RIYADH – Police from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Riyadh Province arrested a gang of 15 teenagers who were involved in 85 thefts and robberies, Col. Fawaz Bin Jameel Al-Maiman, spokesman of Riyadh Province Police said. The police stations in downtown and southern Riyadh received several reports from citizens and expatriates that they had been beaten up and robbed. The crimes varied between holdups to steal cars from owners and staging stickups by stopping expatriates and robbing them of their money and belongings. Truck drivers, who gathered at the parking area for trucks in eastern Riyadh, complained that they too were robbed at knifepoint. Due to the seriousness of the crimes committed by the alleged culprits, the CID was assigned the task of listing all the reports and apprehending the thieves. A highly efficient team was formed to carry out investigations and a search for the criminals. On investigating several suspects, 15 teenagers admitted committing the crimes and distributing the booty among them. They showed the police where they had hidden the stolen items. The thieves were taken into custody and the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP) was notified to complete investigations.
