With this great thought International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) celebrated its 47th Annual Day with much eclat and ebullience recently. The event was organized to honor the meritorious students and the members of the staff for producing outstanding results in the academic year 2015-16. Chief Guest on the occasion was Indian Consul General Mohammed Noor Rahman Sheikh. He was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Naznin Rahman. Deputy Consul General Mohd. Shahid Alam, consul Haj and the school observer, Chairman of the Managing Committee Mohd. Iqbal, members of the Managing Committee Noorul Ameen, Majid Saleem, Tahir Ali, Mohan Balan and Shamsuddin, distinguished invitees, members of the media, school officials, parents and the stars of the day were present on the occasion. Underlining the role of parents in building students' character, the Chief Guest Sheikh appealed to them to emphasize on the holistic development of the children. He urged upon the students to look beyond academics and explore areas of success. He stated, "Failure doesn't mean the end; it means the start of a new beginning; it means to provide one more chance to work harder; one more chance to overcome the weaknesses; one more chance to rise from the ashes like a Phoenix and fly high and succeed." The Indian consul general, speaking extempore, extolled the efforts of student, teachers and parents in their strive for excellence. He praised the school for sustaining a superb standard and hoped that in future too the school would emulate or exceed these results. Noor Rahman Sheikh, while lauding the near-perfect scores attained by the students, recalled his days when a 70%, a distinction, would make students happy. "I also wish that students undergo an all-round development while eyeing far and beyond engineering and medicine as career choices. I hope to see some of these meritorious students take up the civil service option and one of these toppers becoming a IAS or IFS in future to come back to serve the community." He was extremely happy that the school was concentrating on sports to develop students' skills. "This extra dimension in their skills armor, will stand them in good stead," Sheikh added. The program commenced with the recitation of verses from the Noble Qur'an, followed by its translation by Hamza Abubacker. The Students' Cabinet gave a floral welcome to the distinguished guests. Principal Syed Masood Ahmed presented the welcome address and the annual report. In his welcome address he congratulated the students and commended the efforts of the teachers and parents. The annual report, highlighted the achievements of the school in the academic year, 2015-16. He put forth the school's mission for the next three years and defined the vision of the school. He believed that the school would scale great heights and reach the pinnacle of success in the coming years. He emphasized on the need of building strong base for achieving excellence both in the field of academics and co-curricular activities. The program celebrated the excellent results of the students who appeared for AISSCE Grade XII and AISSE Grade X, conducted by CBSE in March, 2016, by awarding the toppers. Lamia Basheer, the head girl of the school (2015-2016 session) bagged the most coveted position of the overall topper of the school with 96.8% marks, followed closely by Nuha Khan with 95.8 % marks. Maliha Nousheen and Fatima Lamia grabbed the third overall position with 95.6% marks each. Farseen Niwas from the boys' section held the first position with 100 % marks in physics. Meritorious students of Classes 6 to 9, along with the Gulf Board toppers were also felicitated by the distinguished guests. The proud parents waited and watched as their young wards received certificates and mementos from the dignitaries. The chairman, in his keynote address, eulogized the unwavering persistent efforts of the school for imparting knowledge to the young minds and extolled the students' commendable efforts. He believed, "Success, as with most things, starts with attitude. When you are struggling, even a small burst of inspiration can make a huge difference to the end result." The teachers were honored too for producing remarkable results in their respective subjects. A special recognition was accorded to the teachers who completed 25 years of service. They were conferred with certificates and mementos for their dedicated and relentless service to the school. With these words reverberating in the air, the proud students, with their heads held high and a desire to bring laurel and glory to their alma mater, looked all set to achieve the impossible and be the change they want to see in the world outside. The solemn event concluded with Mrs. Farha, the vice principal of the girls' section, proposing a vote of thanks.
