A number of residents in Al-Sirfah village in Mandaq governorate were evacuated due to a gas leak in one of the neighborhood houses on Friday. Baha Civil Defense spokesman Col. Jamaan Al-Ghamdi said a citizen reported that a 7-meter-high and 10-meter-long wall had collapsed on a gas tank in one of the houses in the village. The Civil Defense officers arrived at the scene and found that the tank had leaked gas as a result of the collapse. The officers cut off electricity and evacuated residents from all neighboring houses. Workers' residence ablaze; disaster averted HAIL — A fire broke out in a workers' residence in Al-Misyaf district of Hail. The Civil Defense said the fire started in a residence building for workers of a contracting company. It spread to two rooms that were used for storing gas tanks. The Civil Defense evacuated 50 Asian workers from the building and managed to extinguish the fire with no injuries recorded. The Civil Defense said they suspected that the cause of the fire was an electrical short, which may have been caused by the heavy rain in the area during the past few days. Fire in warehouse area contained RIYADH — Three warehouses caught fire in Al-Mansourah district of Riyadh. Civil Defense spokesman Capt. Mohammad Al-Hammady said the control room received reports of a fire in a warehouse storing cutlery sets. The warehouses are located in an industrial area where a number of warehouses are situated next to each other. The Civil Defense arrived at the scene to find that the fire had spread to two neighboring warehouses. Officers extinguished the fire and there were no injuries or fatalities recorded. Kushari restaurant shut down RIYADH — The municipality shut down a kushari restaurant over multiple health violations and notified the owner. Kushari is apopular Egyptian dish made of rice, macaroni and lentils mixed together, topped with a tomato-vinegar sauce and garnished with chickpeas and crispy fried onions. Riyadh Municipality Environmental Health Director Fallah Al-Dowsari said the municipality ran an unannounced inspection on the restaurant and recorded eight health violations. The inspectors detained seven workers for not having a health certificate, and not wearing gloves and a hair net while working. The inspectors also reported that the hygiene of the restaurant was low, there were exposed garbage bags, broken mosquito-repellent lights, unclean fridges and prepared meals stored on the floor. Three arrested for robbing expat QURAYYAT — Police arrested three people for robbing an expatriate. Qurayyat Police spokesman Capt. Yazid Al-Nowmas said an expatriate reported to the police that he was robbed when he parked his car for a few minutes in one of the city neighborhoods. After obtaining a description of the robbers from the expatriate, the police were able to track down the three people within two hours.
