Hornqvist enjoys first career hat trick
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 02 - 03 - 2016

Right-wing Patric Hornqvist scored three goals, center Sidney Crosby set up three and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury put up his fifth shutout of the season as the Pittsburgh Penguins rolled past the sliding Arizona Coyotes 6-0 Monday.
The Penguins' top line accounted for each of the first five goals as Hornqvist enjoyed his first career hat trick and had an assist, Crosby broke out of a recent scoring slump with his playmaking and left-winger Chris Kunitz also scored and added an assist.
Fleury made 30 saves in his 43rd career shutout.
Rangers 2, Blue Jackets 1: Center Derek Stepan scored on a short-handed breakaway with 2:48 remaining in the third period to give the New York Rangers a 2-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
With defenseman Marc Staal serving a tripping penalty, Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh was able to force a turnover and chip the puck down the ice.
Stepan gathered it for a partial breakaway and turned Blue Jackets goaltender Joonas Korpisalo inside-out for his 14th goal of the season.
The Rangers (37-20-6) won their third in a row and fifth in six games.
Lightning 2, Maple Leafs 1: Center Tyler Johnson scored twice and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs.
It was the seventh win in a row for the Lightning (37-22-4) and the second loss in a row for the rebuilding Maple Leafs (21-30-10).
Johnson left the game in Boston Sunday, a 4-1 win over the Bruins by the Lightning, in the third period after being hit in the face by a puck but came back strong against the Leafs.
Garret Sparks stopped 26 shots in the Toronto goal in his sixth game with the Maple Leafs this season.
Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 31 saves for Tampa Bay in his 18th game of the season and was deprived of his third career shutout on a goal by Toronto center Nazem Kadri late in the third period.
Flyers 5, Flames 3: Center Brayden Schenn scored his first career hat trick and the Philadelphia Flyers continued their surge with a 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames.
Schenn became the first Flyers player to record a hat trick on home ice since left-winger Scott Hartnell did so Jan. 15, 2012.
Center Claude Giroux added four assists and right-winger Wayne Simmonds scored two goals in the victory, the third straight for Philadelphia (29-22-11) on its six-game homestand.
Red Wings 3, Stars 2 (OT): Red Wings center Pavel Datsyuk scored the game-winner 2:23 into overtime, and goaltender Jimmy Howard stopped 39 of 41 shots in Detroit's 3-2 overtime win against the Dallas Stars.
Datsyuk scored his 13th goal of the season, sending a wrist shot high into the Dallas net from the edge of the right circle off a rebound with Detroit on the power play.
Detroit gained the man advantage 1:51 into overtime after Stars rookie center Mattias Janmark was called for hooking right winger Gustav Nyquist.
Center Andreas Athanasiou had two goals for Detroit.
Sharks 6, Canadiens 2: Joe Pavelski scored his 28th and 29th goals of the season while Brent Burns and Joe Thornton contributed three points each as the Sharks beat the Montreal Canadiens.
The team's second win in as many nights moved the third-place Sharks to within two points of Anaheim and four behind first-place Los Angeles, both of which were idle.
The hosts broke the game open with two early strikes in the third period to put an end to Montreal's hopes of extending a point streak to five games. — Agencies
