All-rounders Aslam and Ali shine in WPCA

JEDDAH — Faiq Habib of AOT and Aijaz Butt of Nestle Milo hit tons, while all-rounders Rafeeq Aslam (94 runs and 5 wickets) and Shoaib Ali (93 runs and 2 wickets) excelled with bat and ball in the Premier (35 overs) and Afternoon T20 Tournaments, sponsored and organized by WPCA.
Premier (35 overs)
AOT thrashed MCC and Crown Steel had the last laugh against Friends XI in the two matches played in the Premier Division.
AOT thrashed MCC by 165 runs. AOT racked up 313-6 after a disappointing start. Rafiq Aslam smashed 94 in 82 balls with 8 hits to the fence. He added 69 with Malik Hasnain (41), 43 with Qaisar (23) and then 103 in 78 balls with centurion Faiq Habib (100 in 63 balls with 4 sixes and 8 fours). Faisal Mahmood contributed 19. One wicket each was claimed by Mehfooz, Khawar Sohail, Imran, Abdul Ghafoor and Shakeel.
MCC, in reply, lost wickets at regular intervals to be reduced to 141-7 from 138-4 and eventually was all out for 148 as Rafiq Aslam grabbed 5-12. Nadeem Shah claimed 2-18 and Qaisar 1. Naeem made 43, Ejaz 41 and Imran 18 for MCC.
Crown Steel trounced Friends XI by 63 runs. Crown Steel suffered a slump as it was reduced to 60-6. But Shoaib Ali rescued with 93 in 84 balls with 4 fours and a six. He first added 86 with Waheed Khan (35) and then 48 with Ghulam Ali (6) to get to 205. It was Mohammad Tayyab (4-45) who ran through the top order of steelmen. Wajahat Shah took 2-45, Umair 2-53 and one wicket each went to Abdullah Essa and Samer.
In reply, Friends XI also slumped to 11-3. Abdullah Essa scored 65 in 51 balls as he added 65 with Anees Malik (23) to start a mini recovery. But once Abdullah Essa was sent back it was all over to be bowled out for 142 from 129-6. Ghulam Riaz claimed 2-20, Shoaib Ali 2-20, Javed Iqbal 2-40, Waheed Khan 2-41 and Mortaza 1.
Afternoon T20
Marine Services, Awesome XI, Nestle Milo, UCC, Zultrack and Aziziya Elegant won their respective matches.
Marine Services won against Lothers by 9 wickets. Lothers posted 180-7 as Badushah hammered 47. He added 80 with Shibu (39). Shibu then stitched 51 with Suraj (33). Shamsuddin compiled 23. Akram grabbed 3-24. Marine Services reached 181-1 in 100 balls. Riyaz (36) retired hurt before adding 59 with Kashif (30). Majed smashed an unbeaten 56 in 32 balls, while Yaser remained unbeaten on 25 to produce 122 runs.
Awesome XI won by one wicket on the last ball in a thriller. APF posted 168-5. Ali Ansar scored 37, Ehtesham unbeaten 41, Abdulbasit 23 and Siddique 29. Naveed Dadabhoy claimed 3-28.
Awesome XI, in chase, prevailed making 169-9. Haris hit 31, Khalil 34, Tahir 15, Waqas 18 and Farad 26. Yasir took 2-32 and Adnan 2-42.
Aijaz Butt's ton powered Nestle Milo to victory by 46 runs. Nestle Milo racked up 197-2. Ijaz Butt hammered 101 in 55 balls with 3 sixes and 11 fours. He first stitched 87 with Abdullah Zahid (32) and then 83 with Azeem (29). Imran Sarwar remained unbeaten on 26. OMD Tuskers was stranded at 151-8 to lose. Ansar scored 56 in 40 balls and Yashiq Alangad 35. Bilal Malik grabbed 3-22 and Osama Amjed 2-30.
UCC got the better of NAI Juffali by 63 runs. UCC piled up 203-6. UCC lost early wickets cheaply to be in trouble at 30-3. Sarfaraz then rescued the team by smashing 79 in 34 balls. He added 54 with Ahmed Faraz (23) and 72 with Salman (23). Jameel remained unbeaten on 35. Kaifi took 2-42.
NAI Juffali responded with 140-8. Asad Mushtaq hammered 86 in 42 balls and Masud 13. Sarfaraz scalped 3-18 and Amir Mughal 3-32.
Zultrack dominated Harsco Baroom by 5 wickets. Harsco Baroom posted 137-7. Saqib hit an unbeaten 59 in 31 balls, Mohsin 15 and Hasanat 16. Yousuf took 2-13 and Khalid Iqbal 2-25.
Zultrack, in chase, reached 141-5 in 102 balls. Mohsin top scored with an unbeaten 70 in 48 balls. Omar Mukhtar hit 23 and Qaim Khan an unbeaten 15. Saqib took 2-23.
Aziziya Elegant beat Contraco by 20 runs. Aziziya Elegant was bowled out for 165. Ilyas scored 36, Ali Awan 15, Samad 18, Khalid 34 and Waqas 23. Maaz grabbed 3-35, Shakeel 2-31, Yasin 2-22 and Amjad 2-32. Contraco was bowled out for 145. Bilal made 39 and Shahbaz 46. Majid grabbed 4-26.
